About QNS

General Information

At Queensland Neurology Services we offer EEG testing in Queensland at a private clinic within the Wesley Medical Centre in Auchenflower. Our Qualified Scientist will carefully perform the setup and conduct the EEG study to monitor your brain waves. Once the study is complete, our dedicated Neurologist will thoroughly examine the data and provide a report directly to your referring GP. We have minimal wait-times for an EEG appointment for the assessment or review of epileptiform activity that may relate to epilepsy.

In Australia around 1 in every 150 people are currently diagnosed with epilepsy

What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterised by recurrent seizures, caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It can vary in severity and impact, affecting different individuals in diverse ways.

What does an EEG involve?

An EEG, or electroencephalogram, is a recording of the brain's electrical rhythms to see how the brain is working. Using temporary paste and glue, small electrodes are stuck to the surface of the scalp.

During the recording you will need to be still and relaxed with with your eyes closed. You may be asked to do some deep breathing or be exposed to a bright light for a brief period to elicit brain wave changes on the EEG.

A sleep deprived EEG is performed where it is beneficial to monitor your brain rhythms whilst sleeping. To do this you will be asked to have minimal sleep the night before.
